Day 5 - Smoothie continues

Howdy to anyone who may be reading this,

So this is day five and as predicted, I'm already getting tired of this but I'm not going to give up. I will continue for the next 30 days. I'm actually already thinking of my next thirty day challenge.

This is where you can find this current challenge for the Young and Raw 30 day smoothie challenge

Day 4 - At work with the smoothie

Hello world,

I hope you all are having a wonderful Monday. It's a great day outside here in the Midwest, perfect day for smoothie number four!

I know I'm only four days in to this challenge but I'm feeling pretty good. What seems to make this so doable is the fact that you get your shopping lists in 5 day intervals and you get a new recipe emailed to you every night. So there is no guess work in what to put in your smoothie.  I know many people like to go with the flow and create their own concoctions and I think that's great! I on the other hand like having a map to follow...instructions to read...a plan in place.

With that said, you can see today's smoothie below, it didn't yield as much as the others but it was enough to get me through my morning. I paired it with a boiled egg and so far I'm not feeling hungry.

Well, have a great day...stay healthy.

Smoothie of the Day

Day 4: Deep Blue Green Smoothie
1 frozen banana
½ cup fresh or frozen blueberries
2 leaves kale, stems removed
1-inch piece ginger root
1 tbsp of hemp or chia seeds
1-2 cups coconut water or water

Health Benefits:
Did you know that kale has more iron ounce for ounce than ground beef?  Thats right!  When you combine it with a rich source of Vitamin C like you find in our antioxidant rich blueberries you enable your body to absorb up to 30% more of that iron.  Pretty cool, right?

Day 3 - Pretty Green Smoothie

Hello fellow bloggers and smoothie makers,

Day three's smoothie is very pretty. It's a wonderful vibrant yet soft green color. I used a little more pineapple and a little less cilantro (you can still taste the cilantro though) than the recipe called for but hey, I did use all the ingredients so that's all that counts...right?

What I am going to try to do during the week is use my smoothie as my breakfast, maybe with a boiled egg or something like that. The smoothie is very sustaining without it filling you up.

I'll check in tomorrow folks...I have all my Sunday cooking to do so I have to skedaddle out of here.

Stay healthy!

Smoothie of the Day

Day 3: Cilantro Detox Smoothie½ cup fresh or frozen pineapple (no cans)
2 celery ribs
1 cup green leaf lettuce
⅓ bunch fresh cilantro (also known as coriander leaf)
1-inch piece of ginger root (or size to your liking)
1-2 cups of coconut water or water (start with less)

Health Benefits
Cilantro is a heavy metal chelator, meaning it will help to pull heavy metals out of your body. The pineapple will aid digestion and help you to eliminate any toxins that may be stirred up by the other detoxifying ingredients in the smoothie.

Day 2 of green smoothie challenge

Good day all,

It appears as though I've had a few visitors and I say...welcome! And thank you for visiting my blog.

Yesterday I didn't get a chance to make my smoothie until I got home from work so I had it along with my dinner...Subway (eat fresh people!)  I must say it was pretty tasty; the smoothie, not the Subway :-)  I am not completely new to these fruit and veggie smoothies, like I said yesterday, I do have the Nutribullet which I love.  It has just been a while since I've used it...hence my first 30 day challenge.  Each month as I take on a new challenge,  I will try to keep a little piece of the previous months' challenge thereby making my life much more healthy, fulfilled and happy.

Ok, on to day 2. This smoothie is call a skin booster which is great because I have major skin issues.  I am a 15 year sufferer of a severe case of psoriasis. I've tried everything, medically speaking, to "cure" this disease but there is no cure for psoriasis. That's another reason that I really want to make this green smoothie thing a regular part of my diet. Perhaps clean living is the way to my skin being healthy...but more about psoriasis in a future blog.

The smoothie: What I am noticing is that I don't really like the taste of the parsley in the smoothie, I could be using too much. In either case, I've never used herbs in my smoothies so this is something new to get use to.  But overall, it's good.

Remember to see more information about this challenge...go to www.youngandraw.com.

Have a great day everyone...28 more days to go. I can do this!!

Here is the smoothie of the day:

Smoothie of the Day
 Day 2: Skin Booster smoothie
½ field cucumber
1 fresh or frozen banana
½ cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1 cup spinach
½ bunch parsley
1-inch piece ginger root
1 tbsp hemp or chia seeds
1-2 cups coconut  water or water

Health Benefits:
Cucumber, blueberries and spinach all contain antioxidants that help to fight free radicals which can lead to skin damage.  The silica in the cucumber will also help to keep your skin clear and well nourished. This smoothie is also hydrating which is very important for skin health.

Day 1 - Green Smoothie Challenge

Hello out there,

My name is Antoinette and this is my very first blog. If anyone should happen to stumble across my new little blog, please be patient with me as I get my bearings on the world of blogging.

"A Series of 30 Day Challenges" is just that. Each month, I will complete a new 30 day challenge. Initially they will be health focused (eating right, working out, etc) but eventually I will have crafting, meals, and anything else I can thing of.

The reason for this is simple. I tend to get distracted very easily, I lose focus very easily. Also, I've been known to be "gung ho" on a project for a few weeks, do all the prep work then fizzle out. :-( If that describes you, feel free to join me on my quest.

That's when I thought about doing a series of different challenges. That way it stays fresh, keeps it interesting and I'll always have something new to accomplish (and I love accomplishing things).

My first series starts November 1, 2013 with the "Young and Raw 30 Day Smoothie Challenge".  The goal is to drink one fresh smoothie a day. I think I can handle that. I have the Nutribullet for just that exact reason!  My first smoothie will be:

This is taken from the email that you are sent each day during the challenge. To learn more about it, go to www.youngandraw.com and look for the November Smoothie Challenge.

Smoothie of the Day

Day 1: Pineapple Cleanser Smoothie
1 rib of Celery
½ field Cucumber
1 cup fresh or frozen pineapple
½ lemon, peeled
⅓ bunch parsley
1 inch piece ginger root
1-2 cups coconut water or water

Health Benefits:
This smoothie is very supportive of liver and kidney detoxification. Your liver has to process almost all of the substances that circulate through your body and the kidneys do a lot of work to flush out toxins from the fluids in your body.  Keep both of these organs supported with this smoothie.
